Norway will take a seat on the UN Security Council
The United Nations General Assembly has appointed four new members of the Security Council, one of whom will be Norway. In accordance with the principle of rotation of non-permanent members, the Council will also include representatives of Ireland, Mexico and India. This was announced on June 17 by the Swedish news service Sveriges Radio. For several years, we will work for peace and reconciliation to build bridges and find solutions to complex conflicts that will eventually be on the Security Council's table. International law and human rights will form the basis of our work, said Norwegian Prime Minister Erna Sulberg. Norway emphasized that the country is one of the few that meets the UN target of spending 0.7% of its GDP to provide international assistance. Recall that the last time Norway held a seat on the Security Council in 2001 2002. Sweden's Foreign Minister Anne Linde sent his words of support to Norway. My warmest congratulations to Norway on its 2021,2022 non-permanent seat on the Security Council. After a massive campaign to meet global commitments, we look forward to a strong Nordic voice on the Council, Anne Linde tweeted.
