New Mayor of Daugavpils elected
Igor Prelatov was elected mayor of Latvia's second largest city from the Mūsu partija party (Our Party), 11 out of 15 Duma deputies, the lsm.lv portal writes on June 29. Livia Yankovsk became his deputy, a member of the same party. The vote came a week after the mayor lost Andrei Elksnins, accused by colleagues of authoritarian leadership. Prelatov was already deputy mayor and resigned from this position on March 12, in connection with allegations of unreasonable transfer of 300,000 euros to the construction company Modus būve. In 2010, Igor Prelatov received a bachelor's degree in the automotive industry, before being elected to the city Duma, he worked as the head of the technical department of the housing and communal services department of Daugavpils.
