African Union calls for resolution of political crisis in Mali

The Chairman of the African Union Commission, Moussa Faki Mahamat, urged the President of Mali, Ibrahim Boubacar Keita, and the country's opposition parties to cooperate to end the political crisis in the West African country. This is reported by BBC Africa with reference to the statement of Mahamat. According to the television and radio company, Mali faced a wave of anti-government protests. Opposition groups are calling on President Keita to resign due to the escalation of jihadist and intercommunal violence in the country. In response, the president promised to form a new government of opposition representatives. The head of the African Union, in his statement, praised the peaceful nature of the protests and called on both the Government and the opposition to avoid any form of violence.
